A little bit (or a lot) about me...
I am a Canadian artist, specializing in landscape paintings and pet portraits. A lot of my work is commissioned, and I pride myself on my custom artwork. I get my inspiration from the natural beauty of the world; whether that be from the land around me, or the animals and pets I have the pleasure of meeting.
I believe that there is so much beauty in the world, we just need to simply look around us, and I love capturing that beauty.
I am a prairie girl, I have always lived where there is beautiful fields and farms all around. This is where most of my artwork derives from. I was raised on a farm, and I currently live on a farm. I am an animal lover, specifically I love my horses, chickens, and kitties. You can find me sitting with my animals and just enjoying their company, horse back riding, quading, camping, fishing, and all the outdoor activities. I am an introvert and I love just being alone in nature.
I have been an artist literally my whole life, from a little girl, Art was my favourite subject. When I was about 12 years old, Art became more important to me, I would spend hours in my bedroom at my art desk painting and drawing. At that time most of my artwork was horses, I have always had a deep connection to horses: their beauty, their kind souls, their movement. They really capture me. I made sure to be in all the art classes throughout school, and all the art cubs, learning and creating as much as I could.
Once I graduated, I decided to get my Bachelor of Education and become a teacher. I did a major in Human Sciences, and I did a minor in Art. My dream was to become an Art and Home Economics teacher so that I could create everyday and teach others my passions.
After getting my teacher certification, I spent my time subbing and being an Educational Assistant. I got married to my first and only boyfriend, we've been together since I was 15 years old! Shortly after, we had our first child. This is when things shifted for me. I didn't want to send my baby to daycare while I worked, so I made the decision to become a stay at home mom. This was one of the best choices I ever made! While raising a little one full time, I always created every chance I got. I then had people ask me if I could make custom artwork for them, and this is when ArtbyJo came about. I created at night time while my little one slept, making art for myself because its my passion, and also creating art for others. I found it so fulfilling making one of a kind pieces for people! I absolutely love making custom artwork for others, there is so much joy in creating something so special for someone.
Since starting my little art business, I now have 3 kids, a farm with animals, and my amazing husband always supporting me. I now have my own art studio where I can create right on my farm, and I hope to someday offer classes! I may not be teaching in a school anymore, but I am truly living the life I have always dreamed of and I get to create every single day!
